We spend on average a third of our lives in bed, and that is one more reason why it is so important to invest smartly in flat and top sheets, fitted sheets, pillowcases, pillow shams, pillow protectors, and duvet covers. The one thing that will mostly rely on you, is how to care for your bedding. On average, you should not wait more than two weeks to wash your bedding, if you sleep with your pet you should do it at least once a week. Pillowcases can worsen acne if they are not cleaned regularly, as dust mites and oils are known to worsen skin inflammation and flare-ups. Always refer first to the care instructions on the product tab for the best results since different external factors can influence how long linen may last in good condition. For example, the quality of the water can affect the overall life of the linens, but we can certainly make better choices regarding the quality of the laundry detergent we use, drying time, and removing stains.

Work on the stains by using a stain remover on the affected area and brushing them with a soft brush. Wash cotton sheets in hot water to remove allergens and kill dust mites (at about 95ºF), and wash microfiber sheets and cotton/polyester blends in cool or warm water. For high thread count sheets wash them using the gentle cycle to keep their natural sheen. Dry your sheets on low heat or tumble dry setting to minimize wrinkles, and avoid the hot/high cycle for all fabrics, as excessive heat can wear out fabrics and damage the elastic on fitted sheets.

When it comes to bedding, either for your home or your business, take the time to find quality linens that fit your lifestyle, tastes, and budget. Mass-produced linens may be found at lower price points initially, however, the longevity of these products, and the ethics with which they are manufactured often bear hidden costs to consider.
